With the school year coming to an end and summer quickly approaching, the Matawan Police Department Traffic Safety Unit will be focusing on speed enforcement and education. Consequences of speeding, particularly in residential areas where our children play and ride their bicycles, include a greater potential for loss of vehicle control, increased stopping distance after a danger is perceived and a greater severity of crash. In addition to various enforcement details targeting speeding and aggressive driving and the deployment of our RADAR trailers and message boards, today we announce our “DRIVE 25” Lawn Sign Initiative.

Any resident interested in assisting the Police Department in getting the word out to motorists to drive 25 MPH in residential areas, we will provide you with a lawn sign to display on your property. Interested residents can request a sign by emailing the Traffic Safety Unit at traffic@matawanpolice.org. Signs will be delivered to your residence by an officer on patrol within a few days of your request. There are a limited number of signs so they will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Please help us spread the word to drive 25 MPH in residential areas!
