Matawan Police Department – Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting & Hiring
Pursuant to the December 2021 Attorney General Guideline “Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring,” the Matawan Police Department is committed to doing all that we can to hire staff who reflect the community that we serve.
(See N.J.S.A.52:17B-4.10.)
Although our Diversity numbers are fairly representative of the Borough we serve (according to the 2020 census and our reported officer demographics), we recognize our deficiency in representing the Asian population. Additionally, while we currently employ several females within various roles in the agency, we will continue to attempt to recruit females to serve as sworn law enforcement officers. Following a review of the agency’s recruiting and hiring initiatives in 2023, we will continue to strive to increase the number of diverse hires within our agency and will enhance our efforts to seek diverse applicants to join our agency.
This will be accomplished through job fares, community and faith-based events and recruiting initiatives held in conjunction with various law enforcement, educational and community-based organizations.
