Detective Division

While larger police agencies have the manpower to have many officers specialized in investigating different crimes, the detectives within the Matawan Police Department are responsible for investigating criminal activity ranging from homicide to petty theft.

The Detective Division is currently staffed by two veteran officers and is supervised by a Lieutenant who commands the Support Services Bureau. The Matawan Police Detective Division regularly works cases with many county, state and federal agencies in addition to out of state jurisdictions such as the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The Detective Division is responsible for the following areas in addition to their investigative caseload:

• Narcotic investigations

• Juvenile offenses

• Evidence and identification

• Crime scene processing

• Internet related crimes

• Bias crimes and offenses

• Megan’s Law registrants

• Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Laws

• Applicant background investigation

• Licensing.

The Detective Division is normally staffed Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. An on-call detective is available to respond as needed during off-duty or overnight hours.
