Advanced Services Unit

The Matawan Police Department Advanced Services Unit (ASU), formed January 2011, provides advanced response to incidents that require specialized training or equipment, such as vehicle extrication, water rescue and tactical response situations (active shooter, armed encounters etc.).

The Advanced Services Unit is a unit within the Patrol Division and currently has three members, supervised by a Patrol Sergeant. The ASU members are trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) and receive advanced training beyond that of the normal patrol officer/first responder.

The ASU vehicle contains various types of specialized equipment such as the Holmatro tool (“Jaws of life”), Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), automatic weaponry, ballistic shields, rappelling ropes and water rescue equipment.
